In the early 1800’s, entrepreneur Hardy Pace amassed more than 10,000 acres on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, in the verdant hills northwest of Atlanta. More than a hundred years later, Earle Carter Smith (Pace’s great-great-granddaughter) sold one tract of land in the heart of historic Vinings to Felix Cochran, a local real-estate developer and Vinings local.

Felix’s vision was to build a gathering place — a “town center” — that would feature turn-of-the-century architecture celebrating the community’s colorful past.

The architects studied the style of the historic homes remaining in Vinings and designed the shops and restaurants in Vinings Jubilee in a similar style and spirit.

A collection of separate, distinct buildings — some shingled, some with siding, others bricked — helped bring Vinings’ 19th century charm to the forefront. Street lanterns were added for another touch of nostalgia, and a soaring clock tower was erected to serve as the “village’s” symbolic and geographic heart. The name ‘Vinings Jubilee’ came from the owners’ mission to celebrate Vinings as a whole.

In October 1986, Felix Cochran officially dedicated Vinings Jubilee to the community of Vinings, as a tribute to the city’s history.

Over more than 30 years, Vinings Jubilee has doubled in size, but continues to be a great connective force– a true centerpiece– where citizens come together to shop, dine, and visit their favorite merchants and to celebrate the unique magic of Vinings.
